| Quite
honestly, it means different things to different people. At the simplest
level, it refers to your abdominal structure: • the transversus abdominis, which is a horizontal deep muscle which nestles your organs into your torso • the internal obliques, a deep set of muscles which helps stabilize your spine from unwanted movement • the external obliques, a set of muscles which move your body side to side • the rectus abdominis, a set of muscles which bend your body forward. For others, they build
on this basic definition by adding on: the pelvic floor
(the muscles at the base of the body which holds the abdominal organs
up into the body), the muscles which stabilize the shoulder blades,
the muscles which ground your leg into your hip, and
the small muscles which stabilize your vertebrae of your
spine. |
