Resistance training is a critical element to any client's overall fitness program. Increasing strength helps rev up your metabolism and reduce bone loss. A Pilates apparatus workout (with a Cadillac, Reformer, Wunda Chair) meets this requirement by adding resistance to the workout. In addition, the resistance is added in a very functional way encouraging long, lean muscle mass. A mat based Pilates program should be well-crafted to add resistance training (usually through dumbells, stability balls, and the client's own weight) to meet this added requirement. Interestingly, if a client simply does resistance training without strengthening their core, they will move primarily from their limbs and eventually run into injury problems since they have not built a base of internal stability.
