Sacred Spaces Bodywork was developed by Cathy Pliscof Holway, PT, as she sought a gentle, respectful way to honor the self-healing mechanisms of body, mind and spirit. Craniosacral Therapy, itself, has its American roots in the birth of Osteopathy, as founded by Andrew Taylor Still in the mid-1800s. Dr. Still developed a treatment philosophy that honored the original perfection of body, spirit and mind, with techniques to mobilize the healing flow of fluids throughout the body. The work that we know today as Craniosacral Therapy generally refers to a light-touch therapy that addresses the bones, membranes and fluids surrounding the brain and spinal cord (including the bones of the cranium and sacrum at the base of the spine). However, even a light touch can carry a heavy intention and override the authentic healing process of the tissues. Over the many years that Cathy has been working with the craniosacral system, she realized that if she held a very neutral yet supportive intention, without blending into the patient's process, the self-corrective wisdom of the tissues could show itself with more vitality and more meaningful results. This approach named itself "Profound Neutral" and became expressed through "Sacred Spaces Bodywork." Sacred Spaces Bodywork follows basic hand-holds from foot to head as we support the edges of the tissues and "hold a space" for reorganization to occur. As we support the unfolding of the stories of the tissues, energy shifts from the over-ride of the mind to the primary rhythms of the flow that formed us. We can be in our bodies, and in our world, in a place of authentic ease. |
